No more entry exams for Iranian universities as of 2010

Deputy minister of Sciences, Researches and Technology, Hossein Khaleqi told IRNA that the decision was made based on an agreement between the ministry and the Majlis.

"The decision was made according to plan by the ministry which was later approved by the Majlis to restructure the mechanism and facilitate the process of entering universities and higher-education institutes," said the official.

Based on the agreement, Khaleqi added, high schools graduates would enter universities based on the marks they would gain during the two final years of their high schools.

The plan would be implemented after standardization of final exams process at the second and third grades of high schools, Khaleqi added.

Iranian students have to pass the difficult barrier of the universities entry exam after graduating from high schools.

Sometimes, failure in the screening process cause many sensitive students to face serious mental and psychological crises.

During the recent years there were cases of students committing suicide after failing in university entry exams. IRNA
