07 December 2006 [13:55] - TODAY.AZ
Court of Grave Crimes today continued the trial of the gang led by Haji Mammadov, former high ranking official of the Interior Ministry Crime Investigation Department.

As APA reports, 26 members of the gang stand trial presided by Judge Ali Seyfaliyev.

Lawyer to Nishad Ismayilov Terlan Azayev testified. Azayev asked court to investigate the documents thoroughly and to bring acquittal about Ismayilov. Defendant Nizami Abdullayev's lawyer Esmiralda Zeynalova asked court to sentence Abdullayev only for the crimes he committed.

"Nizami Abdullayev did not give Ilham Gadimzadeh injection when he was kidnapped, Aslanbek Chintamirov did it. Both preliminary investigation and court investigation proved that Nizami did not take part in kidnappings and had no information about taken money. Nizami only negotiated with family members of the kidnapped people. Nizami and other criminals were afraid of Haji and that is why they did not inform the bodies about committed crimes," she said.

Zeynalova also said that it is not right to accuse Nizami of criminalist Rovshen Aliyev’s assassination and asked to bring acquittal. Then the lawyers, who did not testify, were given time to prepare and the trial postponed till December 12.

The trial will be continued on December 12.
