47 tubercular patients died in prisons

He said that 66 tubercular patients died in prison last year. "In 1995 460 prisoners died of tuberculosis. 47 prisoners died of tuberculosis this year. 26 of the patients were brought from detention ward, 30 from Gobustan prison. 11 of the prisoners brought from Gobustan prison are lifers. Nizami Guliyev said that there are tubercular patients among the workers, too. 12 workers of the prison have had tuberculosis since 1998. 2 officers died of tuberculosis last year. The tubercular patients are mostly observed among the jailers. DOBS + program supported by International Red Cross organization is realized in the center at the moment. Two-year program began to be realized this year. DOBS+ is a tuberculosis control program. 120 patients will be cured within this program," he said.

The program is realized in France, Germany, Russia and Azerbaijan, APA reports.
