Baku hosts international ecological seminar

The international ecological seminar, which brought together the delegation of the Federative Republic of Germany led by Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Mrs. Astrid Klug, as well as representatives of German NGOs, was held November 15 at the Ministry for Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.

In his opening speech, Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov highlighted the close ties between German and Azerbaijan ecologists after the signing of cooperation agreement with Michael Zukkov German Foundation. Currently, six national parks were created, another two ones are under realization. The government of Germany has already allocated ?2,5 mln for creation of Yalama-Samur national park, he said.

Mrs. Klug highly appreciated Azerbaijan government's work done in biodiversity preservation area. Professor Michael Zukkov told of projects being jointly implemented with Azerbaijani ecologists. Mr. Zukkov offered to launch the new project in Shirvan reserve to increase jeyrans' (gazelle) population.

The reports on prospects of development of the ecological tourism in Azerbaijan, water-marsh territories' preservation were delivered at the seminar. AzerTAg
