Nushiravan Maharramli: "Channel D broadcasting in Azerbaijan illegally"

15 November 2006 [17:21] - TODAY.AZ
"The probe into the telecast about an Azeri woman by Turkish Channel D is ongoing and some measures will be taken," said National Broadcasting Council Nushiravan Maherramli.

He told APA there was no intergovernmental agreement for Channel D to directly broadcast in the territory of Azerbaijan. It broadcasts in Azerbaijan on the basis of an agreement with Azerbaijan's Communications and Information Technologies Ministry.

Maharramli said the stop of Channel D's transmission would be considered if it lacks a right license. "These telecasts cast shadow on the friendship between Azerbaijan and Turkey. We regret for the Channel D's 'surprises'," he said.

Maharramli insisted that foreign broadcasters can not transmit in the territory of Azerbaijan according to the international standards. They can only broadcast through satellites and cable TV.
