Haji Mammadov: "I regret having involved Nizami Abdullayev into my gang"

27 September 2006 [23:53] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's Court of Grave Crimes today continued the trial of the gang led by Haji Mammadov, former high ranking official of the Interior Ministry Crime Investigation Department.

Defendant Nizami Abdullayev answered question on kidnapping of Yasamal district prosecutor's assistant Murad Kazimov. Abdullayev said he does know who ordered the kidnapping. "Haji and Aslanbek Kentamirov conducted the talks on the kidnapping of Murad Kazimov."

Defendant, former department chief of Crime Investigation Department Kamil Sadraddinov asked Abdullayev whether he knew him during these crimes and had role in preventing exposing of the criminal gang. Abdullayev said he does not know anything about that and knew Sadraddinov as the chief of Haji Mammadov.

Nizami Abdullayev partially admitted the charges against him. He also explained the reasons why he returned to Haji Mammadov's gang again.

"After going into retirement, I separated from Haji and went to Donetsk. When I returned to Baku due to my father's illness, Haji told me that I had no way out but joining the gang again," he said.

Haji Mammadov answered questions of lawyer Zeynalova. "I relied on Nizami when I invited him to my gang. But Nizami evaded some orders sometimes. And I threatened him for that. Nizami did not join the case of Majid Mammadov willingly. He was not aware of kidnapping of Zamira Hajiyeva. Nizami was useless police officer and his testimony to the investigation will harm him. I regret having involved Nizami into my gang, he did not take a part of a common soldier in my gang," he said, APA reports.
