Penitentiary system to be trasparent

Approval of new Regulations about the Ministry of Justice, acceptance of the Law "On service in judicial bodies" and a special Presidential Decree "On development of judicial bodies" are evidence to that. Besides, with a view of improvement of style and methods of work of the ministry, a number of concrete measures, including with a view of maintenance of human rights and strengthening of transparency in activity, has been undertaken, and created special structure – Department on Human Rights and Public Relations.

Simultaneously, for construction of work of penitentiary services according to modern requirements, elimination of available problems, the Ministry of Justice takes purposeful measures, improves conditions of maintenance of the convicted, alongside with other measures on reliable protection of their rights provides full transparency in work of penitentiary establishments.

With a view of strengthening of interaction with the human rights organizations, in this field was prepared and approved at the Justice Ministry the "Rules for participation of public in correction of the convicted and realization of control over the penitentiary institutions."

In the past period, over 16 NGOs and the human rights defenders have made remarks, and suggestions, programs and projects.

After the members of Public Committee were elected, they held their first meting, September 25.

Minister of justice Fikret Mammadov informed on the successfully ongoing legal-judicial reforms in the country. Dwelling on the reforms in penitentiary system, the minister especially noted importance of public control in this sphere. He highly assessed the role of Public Committee in upholding of transparency in the mentioned field.
