IAU students and their parents stage protest action outside university building

22 September 2006 [16:30] - TODAY.AZ
The private Independent Azerbaijan University’s students and their parents begin sit-down strike in the university building in Rasulzadeh Street, Vugar Suleymanov, IAU Students' Rights Defense Committee chief told.

They demand restoring their rights to receive education and meeting with the university president Abbas Mustafayev. They were not answered till the second half of the day.

The students said they will not stop sit-down strike from 10.00a.m to 20.00 until the university president gives back their documents in order they could be transferred to other higher schools. Mustafayev wanted to disperse the strike by the help of sportsmen, but they changed their mind.

"We will protest tomorrow too. Because, the university administration does not want to give back our documents. Even the Education Ministry does not believe that we are IAU students," Suleymanov said.

He also said they will appeal to Binegedi district court by the Education Ministry recommendation, APA reports.

The students' appeal to the head of state, Heydar Aliyev Foundation president Mehriban Aliyeva and Parliament have not been replied yet.
