New regional TV channels to be opened in Azerbaijan

The number of regional television channels will rise in Azerbaijan, Nushirevan Meherremli, National TV and Radio Council chief told.

He said the Council has announced two competitions for creating regional TV channels this year.

The period for opening channels in Sheki and Yevlakh expired. He said there will not be a competition for a new TV channel in Baku this year.

"Public TV (ITV) began operating last year. We cannot create new channels every year. Our aim is to create channels in regions," the chief said.

The council will announce a competition for a new channel in Baku next year.

There are ten regional televisions in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
