20 September 2006 [15:16] - TODAY.AZ
The Amnesty International issued its second statement on South Azerbaijan (Iran) national movement activist Abbas lisani, who was arrested on June 3, this year for anti-government campaign and held in Ardabil detention place.

The statement runs that Abbas Lisani peacefully protected political and cultural rights of ethnic Azerbaijanis in Iran, and he is in bad condition in prison now. He staged a hunger strike in protest against prohibition to meet with his family and lost 30kg weight.

The international organization stated that it is not right to hold him in the same cell with criminals, APA reports.

It protests against Kaleybar Revolution Court's sentencing him to one year in prison on September 6. It called him prisoner of conscience and demanded his immediate release.

The Amnesty International appealed to Iranian high-ranking officials and world community for ensuring his direct meeting with his lawyer, family, supply with medications and stopping the pressure against his family members.
