17 September 2006 [02:09] - TODAY.AZ
The second-year students of the private Independent Azerbaijan University (IAU) banned by the Education Ministry staged a protest action in front of the university main building for meeting the university administrator Abbas Mustafayev.

IAU Students' Rights Defense Committee chief Elnur Mammadov told the APA Mustafayev came to the university and tried to appease students saying that the university will restore its activity and get a new license.

"Mustafayev deceives the students and tries to gain time. The second year students are insistent in hunger protest. He said he will not allow staging a protest in the university. But the second year students will start hunger protest on September 18," Mammadov said.

He also said that about 500 students have already been transferred to other private universities (Baku Asia University, Eurasia University, Odlar Yurdu, Azerbaijan, International and Socio-Political Universities). The names of students are in the registers but their documents have not been sent yet.
