Misir Mardanov: "It's impossible to solve education problems in one year"

Azerbaijan's Education Minister held a press conference on Thursday.

He talked about implemented measures and said that construction of 288 schools for 102089 pupils began in 2006. 142 of them were constructed on state project, 92 with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, five by Saudi Development Fund, 49 by the help of other sources.

There are twice more vacancies in new schools compared to last year.

344 schools were repaired thoroughly and 248 were supplied with up-to-date facilities. 218 schools in Baku, Sumgayit and Nakhchivan were given 5644 computers. It is planned to give notebooks and projectors to 435 schools. The supply of 1-11 form pupils with textbooks was completed in 2005. The Minister said Azerbaijan is the only post soviet country to supply pupils with textbooks freely. 5 092 600 copies of 108 books were published and delivered to pupils. 941 teachers were sent to remote villages and 991 to the needed places. 909 were employed in common way. Over 4 000 teachers were employed 947 out of which were sent to remount places.

The Minister said it is impossible to solve all problems in education in one or two years, APA reports.

"We should set a School Council and to determine its authorities. It should interfere in all school problems," he said.

The Minister also said the minimum salary is expected to rise soon and it will be applied to teachers' salaries too. He said the Ministry is not ready to the attestation of teachers.

The Minister said three schools will be given financial independence in 2007. Mardanov touched upon the distribution of teachers' salaries by money access machine and said it will prevent illegal deduction of salaries.
