Aslan Kentamirov: "Haji Mammadov leads unarrested criminal gang"

11 September 2006 [16:22] - TODAY.AZ
Court of Grave Crimes today continued the trial of the gang led by Haji Mammadov, former high ranking official of the Interior Ministry Crime Investigation Department.

26 members of the gang stand trial presided by judge Ali Seyfaliyev, APA reports.

Defendant Husain Abdulvahabov solicited for excluding Haji Mammadov's all testimonies from the list of evidences. He demanded the court to reconsider Haji's transference from the National Security Ministry's jail.

He also said Haji was influenced by some persons. Public prosecutors demanded dismissing the solicitation saying it has not been proved.

The judge dismissed the solicitation. Lawyer Adil Ismayilov asked defendants Sidek Abdulvahabov and Haji Mammadov whether they confirm their testimonies about each other.

Abdulvahabov confirmed the testimonies given upon the trial.

Another defendant Aslanbek Kentamirov testified, "I admit all my crimes except the issue on illicit drug traffic. I faced physical pressures and threatened by investigators. I repeated what they said. So, my testimonies to the investigation might be uncertain."

He said he worked for Sidek Abdulvahabov's gang before and then joined Haji Mammadov's gang.

Kentamirov also stressed Haji still leads an unarrested criminal gang, "The gang was composed of Azerbaijani and Russian citizens. The defendants here have nothing to do with that gang."

The trial will continue today.
