Abbas Aliyev: "Erotica is normal at the festival"

10 September 2006 [13:59] - TODAY.AZ
Demonstration of erotic films at 7th East-West cinema festival were not welcomed.

"Films demonstrated at the festival have won award at international competitions. Russian film Nankin Peysaj has erotic frames. But Azerbaijan is not a Moslem country but also a secular and civic country. So, these films can be demonstrated in Azerbaijan. Of course, under-age children are not allowed to watch them. The festival is advancing in quality and quantity year by year. I don't believe that anybody could rate the festival in a gradual descending ranking," Azerbaijani Cinematography Union secretary Abbas Aliyev told APA.

Cinematography Union secretary Rasim Balayev said that he couldn't attend the festival because of his own problems but he said that he watched some films demonstrated at the festival.

"I have seen some of the films shown at the festival. I don't believe that erotic films are shown there."
