16 August 2006 [10:06] - TODAY.AZ
The fire in Aghsu forest was put out this morning, Rovshan Jalilov, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry (ENRM) Foresting Department director stated.

He said unidentified persons burned dry grass in Kalva and Dilman areas yesterday, and as a result, 150 hectares of area belonging to local authorities and 9.5 hectares of forest burned.

"Despite the ENRM and Emergencies Ministry’s efforts, the fire spread to the forest area. Necessary actions were taken to put out the fire. Only grass cover has been damaged. There is not loss of wood," Jalilov said.

The department director also said the ENRM established commission to analyze the causes of the fire, and the results will be presented to definite bodies. Initial versions say the fire was caused by local residents living in new buildings, APA reports.
