Azeri life-termers to appeal to European Court

Several life-term prisoners, whose death punishments were commuted to life-term imprisonment, are going to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.

Human rights activist Eldar Zeynalov told the APA the appeals of about ten lifers will be submitted to the European Court by late in August. They are complaining of incompliance with the 6th article of the European Convention on Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms.

The prisoners claiming that their appeals for commuting their punishments to 15 years were dismissed by court by groundless reasons want the European Court to help them.
