Russian nationalists demand Azerbaijanis removal from Chita city

A protest action was staged in the center of Chita city in protest against the arrest of Kharagun village residents.

APA reports quoting Russian media the protesters demand releasing Russians, who were arrested for assaulting on Azerbaijanis and deliberately inflicting damage to their property.

In the rally organized by the Russian People's Union, nationalists' party, the protesters shouted slogans "Release 20 Russians arrested for defending their lands from Azeri robbers", "Remove all illegal immigrants from Russia".

Chita's administration did not give any reaction to the protesters.

On May 17 this year, Azerbaijani Royal Yusifov came into conflict with local residents in Kharagun village. The Russians beat Royal Yusifov and, he called other Azerbaijanis living in Kharagun for help. They beat those attacking to Royal Yusifov. In response to this, about 100 local Russians set fire to eight houses and five cars belonging to Azerbaijanis. 59-year-old Azerbaijani was injured in the clash and died in the hospital.

The culprits have been arrested. They are facing charges of manslaughter, damaging property and plundering.

About 89 Azerbaijanis were living in Kharagun. They engaged in wood business. After this even, Azerbaijanis began to collectively leave the village.
