TV marathons to inform world of Azeri history, culture

12 July 2006 [11:55] - TODAY.AZ
The Public Union for Humanitarian Assistance to Education, Culture and Social Fields is getting ready to hold TV marathons in Azerbaijan and abroad.

The key goal of the events, to be organized at the Union's expense, is to inform the world community about Azerbaijan’s history, culture and traditions, its chairman Asgar Mammadov said.

"We hope that we will be able to bring the truth about Azerbaijan into the world community's notice with the aid of our intellectuals," he said.

As AssA-Irada reports, Mammadov noted that the first such marathon will be held in Azerbaijan, according to a preliminary agreement reached with the Public Television (PTV). Historians, scientists and cultural figures will speak about the history of the Azerbaijani state and people during the 6-hour live marathon to be broadcasted on PTV.

Mammadov said the Union has called on the public and intellectuals to present their proposals. A similar event will be held in Turkey, as talks on broadcasting a live marathon in Turkish and English are underway with Turkish TV channels.

Mammadov said that in the future, TV marathons on the history of Turkic peoples will be organized in Turkic states with the support of a youth foundation of the Turkic world.
