Turkish controversial reports on Azeri consul persist

11 July 2006 [11:42] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish Hurriyyet newspaper continues publishing controversial reports concerning the Azeri consul-general in Istanbul Ibrahim Nabioghlu.

In a recent issue, the paper published photos, letters and cellular phone messages confirming the diplomat's relationship with a female lawyer that prompted a scandal, Assa-Irada reports.

The woman has filed a lawsuit against the consul, claiming that he had an affair with her, but beat and insulted her after their relations went sour. Nabioghlu has admitted that he knows the woman but said her allegations they had an affair are nonsense. He said she blackmailed him and his family by making phone calls to his wife and children.

However, the woman insists that they had a relationship. "Look at these pictures. Would someone who has no feelings hug a person like that?" she enquired. The lawyer pledged that she would forward the mentioned materials to court as evidence. She denied an earlier statement by Nabioghlu that he had also filed a lawsuit.
