Azerbaijani Ombudsman to attend 2nd World Forum on Human Rights

As APA reports, the First Forum was organised in the same city at the initiative of and with support of UNESCO, from 16 to 19 May 2004. It was organized under the high patronage of French President Jacques Chirac, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Labour Organization.

The second world forum in Nantes will bring together more than 1,000 participants representing different state bodies, NGO’s and international organizations involved in promotion and protection of human rights around the world.

Azerbaijan will be represented at the forum by Commissioner on Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova. The World Forum on Human Rights is a meeting place and a centre of free dialogue in which all the actors in the field of human rights can participate on an equal footing.

Its main objective is to bring together all the categories of actors working towards the implementation, promotion and defence of Human Rights.

The Forum aims to be a place for useful sharing of ideas, experiences and knowledge, thus strengthening the co-operation between the various actors involved on a local, national, regional and global scale.

The Scientific Committee of the second World Forum on Human Rights has chosen three main topics that will be presented during the plenary sessions and further discussed, along specific topic lines, in round tables and workshops. The three main topics are:

1. Discriminations and diversity (discrimination in a worldwide context of cultural diversity). 2. Economic globalisation and Human Rights. 3. Responsibilities and solidarities.

Ms.Suleymanova will report about measures implemented in our country in guaranteeing human rights and freedoms, Ombudsman’s promotion to this, improving of guaranteeing of human rights, achieved results as well as difficulties and problems in this sphere.
