1 million of 20,8 million refugees and IDPs worldwide are in Azerbaijan

According to APA, there are 20,8 million refugees and internally displaced persons in the world at present. 8,4 million of them had to leave their countries due to civil wars as well as ethnic, religious and tribal conflicts. 6,6 million of them are IDPs.

2.4 million have no countries, 773,000 are seeking asylum and 960,000 are from other category. The negotiations for providing 1,6 million of refugees returning their homes have turned out fruitful.

As coming to Azerbaijan, there are at least 1 million refugees in our country. 750,000 of the, had to leave their homes due to the military operations in Nagorno Karabakh.

About 250,000 Armenian Azerbaijanis have become internally displaced persons because of this conflict.

According to the UN Main Office's report, there are 11,000 refugees coming to Azerbaijan from other countries. Most of them are Chechens, Afghans, Arabs and Akhiskha Turks.
