Turkey coal mine collapse kills 17 and injures 5

Methane gas explosion ripped through a coal mine in western Turkey, village of Odakoy in Balikesir province, killing 17 miners and injuring five others, Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said.

Rescue workers evacuated 35 of 57 miners, including the five injured. Rescue workers could recover 14 bodies and are still trying to recover three bodies trapped in the mine, APA reports.
