Japanese Government to provide $8 million grant to Azerbaijan

Grant agreement on the Project "Improvement of Mushfig Substation in Baku" has today been signed between Azerbaijani and Japanese Government, concerning the provision of 880 million Japanese Yen (8 million USD).

The document has been signed by Hideomi Nakajima, Charge d' Affaires ad interim of Japan to Azerbaijan, and Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen and secure the power supply capability of Baku, covering the districts of Sabayel, Yasamal and Nasimi in the city, which have a population of around 550 thousand, including 60 thousand refugees and internally displaced persons.

The project will aim to increase transformer capacity from 400 MVA to 500MVA by the replacement of existing two transformers installed in 1986.

Since 1999 the government of Japan has implemented technical aid five times with the amount of JPY2,8 billion ($24,5 million). Besides, Japan has granted 3 credits within the framework of its Official Development Assistance (ODA) Programme since 1998. The scale of Japan's ODA to Azerbaijan amounts to be $701 million in total, including the project this time, APA reports.
