23 May 2006 [08:37] - TODAY.AZ
"The Office of Caucasian Muslims is not responsible for conducting of an investigation. But we can appeal to relevant organizations for investigation into the recent happening occurred in Mehdiabad district of Baku. I believe the people of this district and perhaps, some negative cases occurred there. We have determined to warn both the imam and akhund (theologian) of the village. We'll punish both of them if they are guilty in these events," head of the Office of Caucasian Muslims, Sheikulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh told journalists.

According to APA, the Sheikh said that if there was any Shiite-Sunni issue in the Mehdiabad, this will be seriously taken into consideration.

The OCM head said the some try to politicize the happening. "But there is a question I can not understand. Why did Iranian TV visit me before them? It is my duty to protect Ahli-Beyt. None should have a finger in it. Let people apply to me and ask problem settlement. Relevant state organs will investigate the case and if there is a dangerous situation against the state, then measures will also be taken against." Mr. Pashazadeh has said that it is the job of The Chairman of The State Committee for Religious Affairs, Rafig Aliyev, who is the middle-person between state and religion, to deal with it.

"Rafig Aliyev should raise a question before state in order to solve this question."

Sheikh has also refused it that Vahhabism has great threats against Azerbaijan.

"There are many people who stand at gaze against Azerbaijan. But the country has its state and government. Neither Wahhabism nor other religious confessions is able of gaining victory. There are 12 imams here, these issues are of confrontation in Wahhabis. Azerbaijan is a powerful country and these kind of dangers are not problem for us," OCM chairman expressed his grief from the fact on editor in-chief of Bizim Yol (Our Path) newspaper Bahaddin Khaziyev’s beating some days ago.

The Sheikh invited journalists to follow ethical norms as well: "I have stated several times that, everything has limit. There are some issues that it must not be highlighted in the press. For example, Bizim Yol (Our Path) paper writes that sheikh is busy with trade, provides condition with grave yards. These are things not true to the fact and for that I am going to sue file against that newspaper. There are journalists they ask me for money for their writing, because of these kinds of people Azerbaijani lands are under hostile occupation."
