Strong floods hit Azerbaijan's north-western region

The heavy rains caused floods in Azerbaijan's north-western regions Balaken and Zagatala and washed away some villages in the past several days.

The strong flood washed off ten bridges over the Mazim, Katekh and Alazan rivers in Balaken region. Ploughed fields in Sharifli, Gabaghchol, Meshashanbul, Hanifa, Pochtbina, Pustatala and Khalatala villages have been washed of by the floods. The executive power of the region told APA's bureau in Sheki-Zagatala that some preventive measures have been implemented in these areas. The Emergencies Commission of the region is working in intensified regime.

The bodies of two victims of the flood in Georgia's Logadekhi region were found yesterday in Sharifli village of Balaken in the bank of the Mazim River. The bodies were handed to the border guards of the neighbouring country. The flooded Mazim River washed off the bridge.

The flooded Alazan and Katekh rivers caused damage to Lower Chardakhar and Mughanli villages of Zagatala. The village executive representative Murtuza Muhumayev told
APA's correspondent that the floodwall was washed down in 50 meters area in the Alazan River. Muhumayev also warned that the entire village can be washed away if the downpours last one more day. The flooded Alazan washed of 70 hectares of ploughed fields in Mughanli.

Head of the Emergencies Commission of the region Rasim Musayev said preventive measures are taken against the natural disaster. He admitted that they face a number of difficulties in preventing the disaster. There is lack of equipment and necessary allocation.
