Thousands of compatriots left Georgia for Azerbaijan in last decade

16 May 2006 [20:43] - TODAY.AZ
"Thousands of compatriots left Georgia for Azerbaijan in past 10 years," said Ramil Usubov, Internal Affairs Minister in his speech to the media.

Mr. Usubov said that such development of events was upsetting, APA informs.

"On one hand, this is a normal case if level of life in Azerbaijan is much higher than it is in Georgia. That is why our compatriots who live there want to emigrate to Azerbaijan. There are a lot of people among them who have married Azeri citizens. On the other hand, there are negative points either. That the places where the ancestors of Azeri people lived over centuries are getting deserted is the negative point," he said.

Usubov also told that newly established Migration Control Service would take mass migration problems under control. On his words, such problem would be regulated by law:
"Probably there will be some changes regarding migration issues," Usubov said.
