Azerbaijani CEC chairman: "No serious irregularities during repeat parliamentary elections"

16 May 2006 [20:26] - TODAY.AZ
"The 13 May partial re-run of parliamentary elections was conducted in high level in Azerbaijan, and there were no serious irregularities during repeat parliamentary elections to overshadow democratic elections," said Mazahir Panahov, chairman of the Central Election Commission in a meeting today.

According to APA, he said that all procedures beginning from the start of the vote till the counting were held in compliance with the legislation. Panahov noted that the CEC received protocols within two days and this process is over.

"There were some doubtful nuances which have already been investigated. Most of the appeals related to these nuances have not been proved right. Some efforts to overshadow the process failed. We achieved this progress as a result of our trainings and awareness-raising measures. We consider it natural to have some complaints about the electoral process. Because, those lodging complaints are interested in the elections," the CEC chairman said.

Panahov stressed that it is the sign of progress that there were no complaints on the executive bodies' interventions in the electoral process, unlike in the previous elections.
