President Aliyev attends the Victory Day celebration

On May 9, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the victory over fascism in the World War II.

The war veterans, representatives of the capital's public greeted the Head of State in front of the monument to one of the most renowned commanders in the Great Patriotic War, Major-General of armored troops and twice Hero of the Soviet Union Hazi Aslanov.

According to AzerTAg, President Ilham Aliyev sincerely greeted and congratulated the veterans.

He laid a wreath at the monument to Major-General Hazi Aslanov, and paid homage to the brave commander and glorious sons of the nation who died in the war.

President had a conversation with veterans who went through the ordeals of the 1941-1945 war, asked about their existing problems and concerns, and had his photograph taken with them.

The Azerbaijani leader also met and congratulated family members and relatives of General Hazi Aslanov.

The people of Azerbaijan made a great contribution to the victory in the most terrible war in history. Over 600.000 sons and daughters of the Azerbaijani people fought against fascism with half of them died in the battle. During the war, Azerbaijan produced 70 percent of the Soviet oil supplying fuel for vast majority of military aircrafts, tanks and other armored vehicles.
