Reduction of police staff is voluntary

14 April 2006 [16:42] - TODAY.AZ
Reduction of police staff is voluntary, Deputy Interior Minister, Orudj Zalov stated.

According to Trend, he said that some police units were replaced by the civilian guards. Retired or voluntary left police officers are replaced by the civilian staff. "There was no reduction as a matter of fact. Only those who are left voluntary are replaced by the civilian staff," Zalov said.

Police is expected to work in the medium security during the future re-run parliamentary elections, he said. "However, the medium security regime will be implemented only in 10 electoral districts. As during the previous elections police will control security of the meeting points, polling stations and candidates," he said.

The Deputy Minister did not accept the accusations to police in the international organizations reports. The Azerbaijan police is working within the limits of law, he argues. "It is possible that any individual working for police could be violent but he was punished by the disciplinary committee," he concluded.
