A meeting was held between Vugar Gurbanov, Executive Director of TABIB, and Issam bin Saleh al-Jutaili, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Azerbaijan. The meeting was also attended by Araz Nasirov, Deputy Executive Director of TABIB, heads of relevant structural divisions, Miralam Jalalov, Director of the Republican Emergency and Urgent Medical Aid Centre, and Jeyhun Ahmadov, Director of Gabala District Central Hospital, Azernews reports.

It was emphasised during the meeting that the relations between Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are at a high level, further strengthened by the efforts of both the President of Azerbaijan and the King and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

Vugar Gurbanov recalled that during the 6th meeting of the Joint Commission on Cooperation between the Governments of Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia in the fields of economy, trade, investment, technology, culture, sports, and youth, detailed discussions were held on expanding cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade and investment, energy, digital development and transportation, science and education, social protection, tourism, and healthcare.

Highlighting that our countries support each other in international organisations, Gurbanov stated that expanding cooperation in many segments of the healthcare sector, as well as supporting the development of medical rehabilitation services and medical tourism, will yield positive results.

Ambassador Issam bin Saleh noted that sincere friendship relations have existed between our countries since 1991, with ties in all areas developing steadily, and both sides are mutually interested in expanding relations in business, investment, energy, and healthcare.

The ambassador mentioned that significant work is being done to transform Riyadh into a medical tourism centre, and achievements have been made in this area, noting the possibility of experience exchange with Azerbaijan and encouraging citizens from his country to come to Azerbaijan for medical services.

He also mentioned the existence of 7 healthcare centres in his country and the possibility of exchanging experience in the treatment methods used for stroke patients, which are dynamically increasing due to the hot climate, as well as in the field of medical rehabilitation.

"Saudi surgeons successfully perform operations to separate conjoined twins. More than 60 successful operations on conjoined twins have been carried out so far. We are ready for practical cooperation in this area. Additionally, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, financial support can be provided for generally complex and high-cost operations," emphasised the ambassador.

Finally, the ambassador expressed gratitude for the emergency medical services provided by the emergency medical team and specialised medical staff of the Gabala District Central Hospital to a critically injured Saudi Arabian citizen (a woman) involved in a road accident in front of Gabala Railway Station last month, who had an open skull-brain injury, intracerebral haemorrhage, closed chest trauma, and multiple rib fractures. He also thanked for the successful evacuation of the patient to a specialised medical institution in Baku by helicopter, thanks to the joint efforts of TABIB and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. He noted that her treatment is currently continuing in Saudi Arabia, and her condition is improving every day.
