WHO recommends Azerbaijan to keep epidemiological surveillance for 3 or 4 more months

06 April 2006 [08:46] - TODAY.AZ
The World Health Organization (WHO) experts recommended Azerbaijan to keep epidemiological surveillance for three or four more months for precautions against bird flu outbreak.

The WHO representative office in Azerbaijan told APA that the WHO experts, who were in Azerbaijan to support the country to fight the avian influenza, approved the preventive measures implemented by the Health Ministry.

They, however, recommended continuing precautions as avian flu was a new disease and there was little knowledge on its epidemiology. WHO epidemiologist Karmen Pesoa de Sivva will end her visit to Azerbaijan on 7 April.

In cooperation with the Health Ministry she draws up a plan of measures on internal infections. New experts for bird flu are not expected to arrive in Azerbaijan soon.
