50 foreign citizens have refugee status in Azerbaijan

More than 50 foreign citizens from Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and other countries who settled in Azerbaijan have been given refugee status.

According to APA, by this status they got the right to enjoy privileges like Azerbaijani displaced persons.

The chief of the State Committee for Refugees and Displaced Persons, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov told journalists about it.

Stating that the government of Azerbaijan is dealing with the refugees from other countries, Hasanov said they have been provided with schools, healthcare establishments.

"We have one problem concerning Chechen refugees," Mr.Hasanov said, "They come to Azerbaijan illegally. Therefore, it is difficult to specify their exact number. We have many times appealed to Russian government for identifying Chechens settled in Azerbaijan," he added.

Hasanov also said that there are between 13 and 14 thousand foreign citizens from the other countries in Azerbaijan.
