Scores arraigned over corruption in 2005

The Department on Fighting Corruption under the Azeri Prosecutor General's Office has received 92 appeals, according to the deputy prosecutor general, Eldar Nuriyev.

34 of these petitions were of criminal nature, while 15 were rejected as they had no bearing on facts of corruption, and three more were not considered due to their anonymity, Nuriyev told a press conference dedicated to the results of activity in 2005.
The deputy prosecutor continued that criminal proceedings have been instituted on 40 pleas. A total of 49 people were accused of involvement in crimes, including six for taking bribes and 14 for malfeasance.

The head of the prosecutor's office department in charge of scrutinizing appeals Behbud Ismayilov said that a total of 40,665 pleas were received from citizens last year. 12,125 of these were tackled by the prosecution bodies, including 1,615 that have already been solved, AssA-Irada informs.

The prosecutor's office employees received 19,454 citizens in 2005. 604 people were received by the Prosecutor General personally, Ismayilov added.
