World Civil Defense Day marked in Azerbaijan

According to APA, Emergency Situations Minister Kamaladdin Heydarov reported in the ceremony. Congratulating the participants on the holiday, Mr.Heydarov spoke about establishment and development of the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO). The Minister said that the ICDO is dealing with planning, training of specialists, prevents natural and man-made disasters on local and international level; defend civilians' lives and properties.

The ICDO's objective is to ensure the protection and assistance of populations and safeguarding property and the environment from natural or man-made disasters. This organization is cooperating with all states through coordinating different civil defence structures.

Mr.Heydarov characterized the celebration of World Civil Defense Day as an important step in enlightening on protection of people, and arousing patriotic spirit in youth.

"Thanks to the nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev's care to this field, the regions of our republic have been supplied with various modern rescue equipment and facilities," the Minister said. Thanks to President Ilham Aliyev care, emergency rescue teams have been established in various regions.

"Our rescue teams are ready to protect population and environment during natural and man-made disasters. Mr. Ilham Aliyev established Emergency Rescue Camp in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as well as Emergency Rescue Teams in Lenkeran and Sheki. President Ilham Aliyev's participation in the opening of Emergency Rescue Camp in Nakhchivan AR shows the President attaches great importance to civil defence. The emergency rescue teams can ensure protection of populations and environment from natural disasters not only in our republic but in other countries," Mr.Heydarov added.

The Minister highly appreciated the Azerbaijani rescue teams' assistance to earthquake victims in Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. He also said that the rescue operations were held during the floods in Salyan, Saatli, Neftchala, Ali Bayramli, Yevlakh and Kyurdamir regions and the people were evacuated on time.

Minister Heydarov said their staff would achieve in removing all difficulties.

The head of the executive power of Narimanov district Abdin Farzaliyev highly appreciated the establishment of the Ministry for Emergency Situations.

After the holiday ceremony Mr.Heydarov had a look at the equipment and facilities, fire safety equipment as well as facilities used in the establishments and schools. The Minister made his recommendations.
