Saudi Arabia allocates $50.000 to resolution of mine problem in Azerbaijan, this means will be diverted to the clearance of mines and unexploded ordnances (UXO) from houses and surroundings in Tartar and Aghstafa.

As APA reports, this can be considered as initial stage of the cooperation between the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Actions (ANAMA) and Saudi Arabia. ANAMA also says one of the problems of mine spread a large territories is existence of UXOs in houses and surroundings.

This poses potential danger for the residents. On the basis of investigation conducted by in the territories of Azerbaijan by US SAC, the houses which polluted more than normal were shown in special section. The appeals received from local authorities and residents of various regions on discovery of mines and UXOs make the clearance operations necessary.

ANAMA have carried out such operations. On the basis of Norway Refugee Committee, 222 houses were cleared from mines in Ashagi Kurdmahmoudlu and Yukhari Kurdmahmoudlu villages in Fuzuli in 2004 and 2005.

The last operation was conducted on the basis of appeals of residents of Mahrizli village in Aghdam in 2005. As a result, UXO was removed from 5 meter depth in the yard of the house and rendered harmless.

All cleared houses and places around were provided with certificates and this enables the residents to use these territories safely.
