141.7 thousand children born, 51.7 thousand died in 2005

According to initial calculations, the number of population of Azerbaijan became 8 mln 436 thousand early in this year.

Population increased by 89,000 or 1.1% last year and this is the highest indicator in recent 10 years, APA reports. 51.1% of the population lives in cities, 48.5% in villages. Men constitute 49% of the total population of the country, women are 51%. Ratio of women to men is 1034 to 1000. 25% of the population is under 14 year old, 68% are 15-64, and 7% are over 65. 18-34-year old youth comprise 29% of the population. Most of them live in city.

According to initial information, life expectancy was 72.4 in 2005 (men-69.6; women-75.3). 141.7 thousand children were born, 51.7 thousand died in 2005. 16.1 children fell on per 1000 people in 2004 but this indicator reached 17.1 in 2005, the same indicator on death increased to 6.3 from 6.1.

As it is, in most of the countries in the world, the reasons for death were diseases of blood circulation system, neoplasm and respiratory organs. The reasons for infant death are diseases of respiratory organs; diseases appear in prenatal period as well as infectious and parasitic diseases. 70.9 thousand marriages and 8.9 thousand divorces were registered last year which is more compared to 2004. 1.9 thousand people came into the country to live and 2.8 thousand left the country in 2005.
