Chief veterinary surgeon of Masalli was discharged from his post for his indifference to the spread of disease among birds and having delayed informing the State Veterinary Service (SVS) at Ministry of Agriculture about it.

According to APA, the head of the SVS Ismayil Hasanov informed about it at the press conference today. He stated that, the blood of the birds dying out massively in Masalli and Barda was tested and no bird flu virus was found. It was identified that the birds in Masalli were affected by kulibacteriosis infection and the birds in Barda are affected with askaridos infection. The US Embassy to our country sent the blood of the birds to Cairo for re-analyzing.

I.Hasanov said that, according to the official information, bird flu virus was found in Ukraine, Russia and Turkey. Though the disease is not observed in Azerbaijan but precautions are implemented related to it. The veterinary stations in the borders are working with intensified regime, special protective clothes, disinfecting equipments, diagnostic facilities and etc have been purchased. Vaccines will be brought to Azerbaijan from Russia in February.

I.Hasanov considers it is not right to vaccinate birds now. "Thus, we cannot know the kind of the virus causing the disease. The import of living birds and fowl from the countries where the virus was found, hunting, sale and consumption of birds of passage were banned in the country. Poultry farms work in closed regime. The sale of birds and fowl products in unidentified places is forbidden."

I.Hasanov advised those keeping birds in the yards, fields, around lakes and rivers to do it in a closed condition. According to I.Hasanov, discussions are held with the World Bank for paying compensations to the farmers whose poultry have been culled out.

I.Hasanov also reminded that, 17.20 million of poultry are kept in the large poultry farms in Azerbaijan at present. The number of poultry is supposed to be greater in individual farms.
