Execution of USAID-funded Azerbaijan Humanitarian Assistance Programme ends

The Azerbaijan Humanitarian Assistance Programme (AHAP) costing $57 million funded by the United States Agency for International Development since 1998 and administered by the Mercy Corps organization will draw to a close on January 13 this year.

According to the information given to APA from the public affairs department of the US embassy in Azerbaijan, while the AHAP programme will draw to a close on January 13, the important issues intended in the programme will continue to be addressed through a number of USAID initiatives, including the recently announced $15.5 million Strengthening Azerbaijan Civil Society Project and $11.5 million Community Development Activity in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijan Humanitarian Assistance Programme has benefited over 2 million people in 23 regions throughout Azerbaijan so far.

Within the framework of AHAP, 1488 separate community-led projects have addressed the social-economic and health problems of these communities. The results include the training of over 1,000 health professionals, creation of 45518 businesses and 9068 jobs, and disbursement of 41,013 group and individual economic development loans to community members.
