Scandal around police major Gasimov makes a new twist

09 December 2005 [18:54] - TODAY.AZ
Today Khoshgadam Hamidova who allegedly was sexualy abused by ex-chief of crime-investigation department of Nizami district police in Ganja held a press conference. Hamidova stated that Koroglu Gasimov never even touched her and she will sue the media, which spread false information about her.

Hamidova said that she was interrogated by Gasimov on November 6 in connection with her son – Eshgin Hamidov who was accused of stealing and she did not face any pressure in the police office: "Gasimov did not even slap me, however, I do not know whether my son faced pressure or not because he is in prison. Media disgraced me".

Jamal Bagirzade, an attorney of Hamidova defended Gasimov and said that probably the Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov dismissed the officer from his position in Ganja police for other administrative violations.

Husband of Hamidova - Sakit Rustamov also excluded that Gasimov could have done something to his wife: "No police officer is capable to do such wildness. After those news I am ashamed of going to Ganja".

But in spite of the conference and all the said by Hamidova and her husband there are people who doubt that Hamidova is being straight when she refutes the fact of the sexual abuse.

"I understand Khoshgadam Hamidova. She held the press conference under pressure. Khoshgadam Hamidova had to defend her rights as a European woman or one of her male relatives had to avenge the disgrace by blood. Now neither of that happened, so Khoshgadam Hamidova made this statement," stated Novella Jafaroglu, head of Women Rights Defense Committee named after Dilara Aliyeva.

The right defender said that Khoshgadam Hamidova worries about the future of her children - one of her sons is in prison, the other is studying. Jafaroglu said that Khoshgadam Hamidova has faced various pressures. The right defender stressed that she submitted the materials that were collected during her visit to Ganja and in her meetings with Hamidova to the Ministry of Internal Affairs: "I was told by the Ministry of Internal Affairs that this person [Gasimov] has already been removed from the police bodies and criminal proceedings have been initiated against him".
