Azerbaijan celebrates Constitution Day

Today Azerbaijani citizens celebrate the Constitution Day. President Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech congratulating citizens of Azerbaijan with the holiday.

President Ilham Aliyev today congratulated Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the Day of Constitution. The President stated that it is 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution and underlined that this occasion is related with name of Heydar Aliyev.

Reminding that, the Constitution is a strong foundation for building a democratic, juridical and secular state, the President also touched on the recent elections to Milli Majlis. He underlined that this election which was remarked for voter’s activity was important for the democratic development of Azerbaijan and made the election practices to meet the international standards.

"These elections proved that it met the item of the Constitution that the people are the source of the authority and the results should reflect peoples’ will," said Aliyev.

The head of the state congratulated all the citizens of the country on the occasion of our important state holiday and wished successes on the way of progress of the state and society.

[Ed. note]The Azerbaijani Constitution was adopted on 12 November 1995 on the day of the first parliamentary elections. New Constitution became valid on 27 November 1995. The decision on establishment of the Constitution Day was made on 6 February 1996.
