Azerbaijani and Japanese cities pen twinning paper

A twinning agreement has been signed between Azerbaijan`s Ismayilli and Japan’s Ito cities.
The agreement was signed by head of the Ismayilli Executive Authorities Mirdamad Sadigov and Ito Mayor Hiromi Tsukuda in Japan.

Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade was present at the signing ceremony.
Speaking to the ceremony, Mayor Hiromi Tsukuda hailed Azerbaijan`s rapid development. He recalled his Azerbaijan trip in 2012. The Mayor expressed confidence that the agreement with Ismayilli would be useful for both sides. Hiromi Tsukuda said “the document is the first cooperation agreement between the cities of Azerbaijan and Japan, and it will open opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education, health, culture, tourism, sport, local self-governance and natural resources”. He also stressed the importance of the agreement in terms of establishment of close relations between the peoples of the two countries.
Mirdamad Sadigov expressed confidence the agreement would strengthen the relations between the two countries. He underlined Azerbaijan was interested in Japan`s experience in the fields of education, agriculture and tourism. Sadigov highlighted Azerbaijan`s rapid economic development under President Ilham Aliyev.

The head of Ismayilli Executive Authorities also touched upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which he said resulted in the occupation of Azerbaijan`s lands.
The signing ceremony was followed by a press conference.

As part of the trip, Azerbaijan`s delegation visited Ito city parliament, Ito city Tourism Association and Skydome trade center.
