27 September 2013 [15:47] - TODAY.AZ
In recent years Azerbaijan has successfully carried out organ transplants. The number of kidney and liver transplants increases in health care facilities, Deputy Minister of Health Elsever Agayev said during an online press conference on Friday.

According to him, in 2012, 41 people were operated on kidney transplants and 12 on liver transplants. During the first half of 2013, 24 patients were operated on kidney transplants and nine on liver transplant.
Now we are making preparations to start bone marrow transplant surgeries, the deputy minister said.

Responding to a question about personnel reform in the health system, Agayev said that one of the main directions of development of public health by world standards is the personell changes and reforms in medical education.

"In recent years, the Ministry has taken exceptional measures in this sphere. As is known, since January 2011 certification of medical workers adopted in developed countries, began in Azerbaijan. The certification is carried out in order to provide quality health services, improvement of professional level and professional competence of persons engaged in medical practice or pharmaceutical activity. The certification creates an opportunity to improve the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of nurses and doctors. It can be said that the certification is intended to ensure that only competent professionals are engaged in practical medicine or pharmaceutical activities. Until now, more than 10,000 physicians passed the certification," the deputy minister said in conclusion.
