Armenian fire cuts tranquility on border line again

The ceasefire regime was again violated on contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend today.

Armenian Armed Forces opened fire at positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces situated in Gizilhajili and Kemerli villages of the Gazakh region, from the positions located near the village of Berkaber and Azamut of the Armenian Ijevan region last night.

The Azerbaijani positions were fired from the positions near the occupied villages of Goradiz Ashagi Abdulrahmanli of the Fizuli region, Shikhlar and Namirli of the Agdam region, as well as from the positions in the nameless heights in Goygol and Dashkasan regions.

The shooting was countered by return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
