Sweet jams go on spotlight in Azerbaijan's Gabala city

Azerbaijan’s historic city Gabala has hosted the country’s first “Jam Festival”. At the festival which attracted hundreds of local and foreign tourists, 12 types of jams coming from 12 cities across the country, were displayed.

Jam, which is a must for breakfasts in many cultures, has a special place in Azerbaijani cuisine. People in Azerbaijan like to eat jam when sipping their tea, instead of putting sugar.

Visitors also had a chance to taste various different kinds of jams made of walnuts, pomegranates, cherries, watermelon, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, grapes and roses.

On the other hand, amateur folk groups performed dances for those at the festival. Apart from jams, during the festival variety of desserts and dishes from Azerbaijani kitchen were also offered.

Tahir Amiraslanov, the president of Azerbaijan National Culinary Association, noted that although the first year of the festival, it attracted considerable attention and they will make the next festival more international.

The winners were presented medals and certificates.
