Encyclopedia on Nakhchivan's geology to be issued in Azerbaijan

Scientists of the Geology Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) are working on the "Geological encyclopedia of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic".

With this aim, the department heads - Doctors of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Shikhali Babaev, Mukhtar Rahimov, Novruz Novruzov, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Vagif Mammadov, as well as a young scholar Fouad Rahimov and head of the Institute of Geography, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Hussein Khalilov are at the expedition in Nakhchivan, Public relations Department of the ANAS Presidium told Trend on Monday.

The experts examined all layers of rocks ranging from Paleozoic to Quaternary period, determined their position, and took photos of stratotypic cuts.

The work on preparation of this publication began in September, 2012 and materials on stratigraphy, lithology, magmatism, tectonics, geomorphology of common types, minerals, overhead and underwater resources were collected and analyzed before the expedition. Work on specification in these areas was conducted during the expedition.

The completion of investigation and the publication of the encyclopedia is expected by the end of this year.
