Opening of Baku Metro's new station nears

Baku Metro is completing the construction of the new station 'Bus Terminal', Baku Metro Traffic Service's chief engineer Etibar Isayev told journalists on Thursday.

According to him, at present face works are being carried out at the station and the operational testing of trains will start in early 2014.

"The station will be put into operation during 2014," Isayev said.

At present, the line length at Baku Metro is 34.6 kilometres. Today, the Metro has two lines. In future it is planned to increase the number of subway lines to five, as well as increasing the length up to 119 kilometres and the number of stations up to 76.

The Baku Metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations. Previously a 20-year programme for the development of the Metro was adopted.
