Azerbaijani Ministry in favor of punishment for online insult of honour

The Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry supports the appeal to the Azerbaijani Parliament in connection with the initiation of a criminal liability for the insult of honour and dignity in online settings, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov told media today.

The minister said that many countries have similar legal statutes.

"The protection of the rights, honor and dignity of people online is very relevant today around the world and in Azerbaijan," he said. "Cases involving the insult of the honor and dignity of people that lead to disastrous consequences frequently occur on the internet."

Nowadays, practically all spheres of the society's activity are online. The internet will be a hard medium to tame, Abbasov said.
