
The Azerbaijan-Poland friendship monument has been unveiled in Gniezno on the occasion of national leader Heydar Aliyev`s 90th anniversary.
The monument marks the 540th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan-Poland diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of restoration of these ties.
The Friendship monument features the two countries`s maps and national leader Heydar Aliyev`s opinions on Poland and Rome Pope Johan Paul II`s on Azerbaijan.
The monument was made by Azerbaijani people`s artist Salkhab Mammadov and honored artist Ali Ibadullayev.
Speakers at the unveiling ceremony said the monument would play an important role in
strengthening the Azerbaijan-Poland relations.
Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Adalet Valiyev said Poland was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan`s independence.
Director General of Poland`s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Jacek Olbrycht called Azerbaijan a strategic partner of Poland.
The city of Gniezno also hosted an exhibition dedicated to construction of the Friendship monument and presentation of a kind of tulip named “Azerbaijan” cultivated by Jan Ligthart, a self-taught Dutch tulip breeder.
The event also featured the presentation of a Polish language book on Azerbaijan, as well as a concert, which saw performances of mugham singers Tayyar Bayramov, Arzu Aliyeva, Rovshan Gurbanov (tar), and Khayyam Mammadov (kaman).
