By AzerNewsBirdhouses made based on the design of the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) contest's winner, are being placed in city parks of the capital and major cities of Kyrgyzstan, IDEA said on Saturday.
The competition for the best design of the birdhouses, announced by IDEA in May 2012, was won by 26-year-old Tatiana Biryugina, a Kyrgyz designer.
"From the professional point of view I was interested to come up with a design of housing for the birds, which are very demanding to their houses," Biryugina says.
According to IDEA, setting birdhouses, which plays a significant role in the restoration of the environmental balance of cities, coincided with the International Migratory Bird Day, celebrated annually on April 1.
Bishkek has problems with the ecological system, as the number of Afghan starlings that peck eggs of local birds, such as sparrows and swallows, is increasing, which reduces the number of urban birds.
The negative impact of humans on the environment causes serious ecosystem degradation and destruction of plants and animals. This rapid decline in biodiversity also includes the loss of bird species.
According to Elvira Sariyeva, an MP of the city council of Bishkek, the birds can be of great help to the city, and birdhouses are an affordable way to help restore the environmental balance.
Sariyeva said these birdhouses will not solve all the problems of urban birds, but at least will help to provide their nesting sites.
The birdhouses made by the design of the IDEA contest winner will also be installed in parks and residential areas of Baku, Vilnius, Moscow and London.
IDEA has been promoting innovative approaches to the solution of environmental problems since its establishment on July 12, 2011 by the Vice President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
IDEA is based on the principles of dialogue, action, leadership and education -- all essential components for equipping a generation to foster positive and sustainable environmental change. The campaign is mainly focusing on the power of youth and considers it as an important tool to change the way we behave and consume our surrounding natural world.
The campaign mission includes creation of a real and virtual community of young people, regionally and internationally, with a shared passion for the environment, nurturing virtual community through an open dialogue which provides information, inspiration and calls for environmental actions, as well as empowering each member of the community to become an ambassador and leader for local environmental awareness and action.
