Int'l workshop on sustainable waste management to be held in Baku for the first time

On June 17-21, "Tamiz Shahar" JSC in collaboration with WTERT-Greece/SYNERGIA are organizing an interdisciplinary event that will focus on state of the art technologies for sustainable waste management, entitled "Waste to Energy as an Integral Part of Sustainable Waste Management Worldwide. The case of Baku city, Azerbaijan".

President of WTERT-Greece (SYNERGIA) Dr. Efstratios Kalogirou, Director of Earth Engineering Center Professor Nikolaos J. Themelis, Chairman of MatER (Material & Energy from Refuse) Professor Stefano Consonni, Professor of University of Leuven Carlo Vandecasteele, Managing Director of UV&P Franz Neubacher, Head of Project Management and Public Relations deparment of "Tamiz Shahar" JSC Ogtay Mammadov, Head of Health, Safety and Environment Department at  “Tamiz Shahar” JSC Sabit Zeyniyev, Director of Waste-to-Energy Plant Stefano Danieli, Deputy Director of Integrated Solid Waste Management Project, Ministry of Economic   Development and World Bank Vusal Nasirli will read lectures in the five-day workshop that will last 5 days.

The five-day workshop will focus on the technical aspects, environmental benefits, and economic viability of Waste-to-Energy, Anaerobic Digestion, Mechanical-Biological Treatment, and Sanitary Landfilling. On the fifth day of the workshop, the participants will have the opportunity to visit the state of the art Waste-to-Energy plant of Baku.

The workshop is a unique opportunity for professionals and graduate students specializing in waste management. The workshop is also addressed to government agencies, companies planning and executing waste projects and researchers, university students, as well as anyone wishing to deepen their understanding in this field.

It should be noted that international workshop “Waste to Energy as an Integral Part of Sustainable Waste Management” is held in various countries of the worls each year. More than 60 participants from different countries of the world are expected to attend the event held in Baku this year.  It should also be noted that The Waste to Energy Research and Technology Council (SYNERGIA) is the Company major objective of which is to bring together professionals from universities, government and industry who are interested in development of technologies for the recovery of energy from solid wastes (WTE) and preserve valuable lands for the future generations.
